Café Commune – Burleigh Heads

Situated in a mundane and rather unassuming location right next to the Gold Coast Highway sits this funky little gem. With its vintage and beach-style interior, focus on organic food, roasted coffee beans by Campos (which we already know and love from Brisbane) and its friendly service, it’s the perfect hang-out to kick back and unwind. Oh, yes, and the coffee was as smooth and full-bodied as it gets.

Quest Coffee Roasters – Burleigh Heads

Great little coffee shop and roaster on James Street in Burleigh Heads. They use organic beans and create beautifully balanced coffees. Their quest for a real good coffee made from high-quality beans has certainly paid off.  When I called in, it looked like this place was popular amongst tourists and locals alike. They also sell coffee-making accessories and scrumptious pastries. Good place to hang out at for a little break.

Bellissimo Coffee

With an unassuming frontage and wedged in front of semi-industrial buildings at the bottom of Oxford Street, Bulimba this gem is easily missed, but not by the locals.

Always well patronised, great coffee and tasty light snacks and cakes can be enjoyed in the casual, relaxed courtyard. Grab a takeaway and stroll along the riverfront for some great views of Teneriffe and the city.

Poppi’s Health Food Store and Wholefood Café is located in Boonah in the heart of the beautiful Scenic Rim of South East Queensland. Situated at Shop 3, 12 High Street on the corner of Church Street, Poppi’s stock a fantastic range of local and unique, gourmet and organic products, in addition to serving excellent coffee from Montville.

After a very pleasant day of visiting various places within the Scenic Rim last Sunday, Poppi’s was a welcome finish to the day with their friendly and personalised service and relaxing surrounds. Thanks Poppi’s!

This was an unlikely find in the Outer Sunset area  of San Francisco. Located at 2045 Irving Street, Swich is nestled among a number of Asian restaurants, markets and supermarkets. Classified as an ice-cream sandwichery, Swich offers five flavours of cookies, four flavours of ice cream and dippable toppings but more importantly for us, great coffee.

This was our ‘go to’ place each morning during our recent stay in SF for our Aussie style flat white. Well done, Swich!

Locomotive Espresso

On a recent visit with family in London, Ontario we were on our way to Bayfield for a day trip and were introduced to this local gem at 408 Pall Mall Street. Located in a charming old building, Locomotive Espresso was voted to the top 10 coffee shops in Southern Ontario. The owner, a local lawyer, had discovered our Aussie suburban coffee establishments and their great coffee on business trips Down Under. London has certainly benefited from these experiences and his vision.

Great coffee and the friendly and knowledgeable staff could whip up a flat white that any Aussie barista would be proud of.
